Not your normal post

I normally only post about our family, since that's the point of this blog and all. But recently I became aware of a family that I feel needs some attention. The mothers name is Andrienne Jones. She is the mother of a child with a mental illness. I look at my most challenging days with Sophia and quickly realize that they are nothing compared to what she deals with on a daily basis.

This is her blog: http://www.nopointsforstyle.com/

She doesn't claim to be super mom. She's not looking for pity or a hand out. In fact she wants to spread the word about how children with mental illnesses don't get the help that they need. They don't get the attention they deserve. And if that doesn't make you sick, read her story. Read about what their days are like, the challenges they face. Then think about facing those all the while not being able to get your child, your family, the proper help they need.

Andrienne is taking part in NAMIWalks (you can read about it here and donate to her team if you see fit). Here's the great thing, after getting blown up with attention on Twitter this past weekend The Little Bean Coffee Company has gotten involved to help her cause. You can read all about the details on this site. So you can give to a good cause and get some coffee! Win-Win!

It was said this weekend that any one of us could be raising a child with a mental illness. And those words have been in my head ever since. It's true. We could, we need to be raising awareness for kids who can't do it for themselves. We need to make our nation take notice that these children are not getting the help and care they deserve because of a mental health system that has more flaws than one could imagine (way to go de-institutionalization).

Help you can, or if you're moved to. Spread the word! Help people take notice of a good cause, for a good reason: KIDS!
